Arthur Shawcross (Arthur John Shawcross) an American serial killer known as the Genesee River Killer and the Genesee River Strangler. He was arrested in 1972 for the rape and murder of two children. The charges were pled down to one count of manslaughter and he was released on parole in 1987. Shawcross killed most of his victims from 1988 to 1989 after his parole. He would rape strangle and beat mostly prostitute victims prior to killing them. Shawcross once claimed to have eaten the vulvas of three victims and the genitals of another. He was also known as The Rochester Strangler and the Monster of the Rivers.

Arthur Shawcross was born on June 6th 1945 in Kittery, town in Maine. He was born 1st of 4 children and raised by both parents. Shawcross was raised as a oldest child and had one younger brother and two younger sisters, Jimmy, Jean and Donna. His father, Arthur Roy Shawcross. His mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Yerakes. Arthur Shawcross had XYY Syndrome, a rare chromosomal disorder that affects only males. He had a head injury or brain defect. During his education he had academic, social or discipline problems, including being teased or picked on. Arthur Shawcross was sexually, physically, and psychologically abused at some point of his life.

At the time of his crimes he was living with his wife Rose Marie Walley at a house on Alexander Street in Rochester, New York, US, where Shawcross was known to work as a serial killer.
He was arrested on January 5th 1990 (Age 44), convicted on December 13th 1990 (Age 45), sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole at Sullivan Correctional Facility in Fallsburg, New York, US. Shawcross was convicted on charges of murder and other possible charges during his lifetime.

Arthur John Shawcross (June 6, 1945 – November 10, 2008), also known as the Genesee River Killer, was an American serial killer active in Rochester, New York.His first known murders were in 1972 when he killed a young boy and girl in his hometown of Watertown, New York. Under the terms of a plea bargain, Shawcross was allowed to plead guilty to one charge of manslaughter, for which he served 12 years of a 25-year sentence.
