Alferd Packer Packer was found guilty of premeditated murder and sentenced to death by hanging on April 6th 1883. He and five other men attempted to travel through the high mountains of Colorado. Packer later admitted to having lived off the flesh of his companions. On June 19, 1899, Packer's sentence was upheld by the Colorado Supreme Court. However, he was paroled on February 8, 1901. In 1901, Governor Charles S. Thomas granted Packer's parole request. Packer moved to Littleton, Colorado, where by all accounts he became a model citizen, well liked by all of his neighbors.He died of natural causes on April 23, 1907, and was buried with military funeral in Littleton Cemetery.
